About Serenitas Maris

We exist because the maritime industry needs human factor support that understands operational realities — not generic programs designed for shore-based contexts.

The Gap We Address

Compliance Is Not Culture

The maritime industry has policies, checklists, and procedures covering almost everything. Yet incidents keep happening. Human error remains the dominant factor in maritime casualties. Why?

Because there is a gap between what is documented in the SMS and what actually happens onboard. Between the training delivered in classrooms and the decisions made under pressure at 3 AM. Between what auditors ask and what crews experience.

Fatigue, communication breakdowns, leadership gaps, unaddressed stress, fear of reporting — these are not solved by adding more procedures. They require understanding human behavior, building practical skills, and creating an environment where people can actually perform.

Serenitas Maris was founded to help maritime organizations close this gap. We bring together an understanding of shipboard operations with professional training in applied psychology and human factors.

Background

Maritime Experience + Psychology Training

Serenitas Maris is founded by someone who has been at sea. Who has experienced the isolation, the pressure, the long watches, and the unique dynamics of multicultural crews. Who understands what it means to make decisions under fatigue, to manage a team far from shore support, and to deal with the challenges that don't appear in training manuals.

That maritime background is combined with professional training in psychology and human factors. This combination is essential — psychological theory must be adapted to work in the specific context of maritime operations, not applied generically.

We speak the language of maritime decision-makers because we come from the same environment. We understand inspections, audits, vetting, and the commercial pressures that shape operational decisions.

Our Mission

To reduce human factor risk in maritime operations through practical, evidence-based psychological services that work within the realities of life at sea.

Our Vision

A maritime industry where human factors are addressed as seriously as technical maintenance. Where crew performance is supported systematically, not left to chance.

Standards Alignment

We Understand the Compliance Landscape

Our approach is informed by established maritime frameworks. We help organizations meet their obligations effectively — not through box-ticking, but through programs that create real capability.
